It is the most common tiger and comprises half of the tiger population
in India. This animal is very powerful and can walk miles to hunt for
food. Despite their fearsome nature these animals always avoid human
beings. They generally prefer to live in isolation. India is home to
large number of national parks and wild life sanctuaries. Jim Corbett
national, Gir national park, Bharatpur bird sanctuary, Sariska Wild

Spread over area of 500 sq km, Jim Corbett national park located in the
foothills of Himalaya is the first wild life reserve of India. Important
animal found here are tiger, elephant, chital, sambar, nilgai, gharial,
king cobra, wild boar etc.
Gir national park located in Gujarat state is the home of Asiatic Lion.
This national park which was started as a forest reserve in the year
1965 to conserve the endangered Asiatic lion has since become a popular
tourists attraction. India's wild animals are quite different from her
African counterpart. Most of the animals are shy and elusive and prefer
to live in herds.
